Structures and Materials (CIV102)
Taught By: Professor M.P. Collins
Structures and Materials is the epiphany of traditional engineering. In this course, as the course name implies, I was taught the technical aspect of structural engineering. I learned how to design suspension bridges, truss bridges, arch bridges, beams, wooden beams, and reinforced concrete structures. As well, I learned the intricacies of frequency calculations, deflection, factors of safety, wind bracing and more. Along with the technical aspect, I was taught quite a bit of history in structural engineering and the feats performed by Julius Ceasar. It is in this course that I was taught the three principles of engineering:
Below are some of the projects I have completed in this course:
- F = ma
- "You can't push on a rope!"
- "To find the answer, you must know the answer."
